Jazz Achieves Pakistan’s First 1.2 Tbps Optical Network Deployment

ISLAMABAD — Jazz, Pakistan’s leading connectivity provider, has achieved a major milestone in its network modernization journey by deploying the country’s first 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) per-wavelength capacity on its optical transport network, an media reports said. The deployment was carried out in collaboration with strategic technology partner Huawei.
This landmark achievement underscores Jazz’s commitment to building a high-capacity, resilient, and future-ready digital infrastructure to support next-generation services, growing data demand, and evolving enterprise and consumer needs. The 1.2 Tbps per-wavelength upgrade significantly strengthens Jazz’s core and aggregation network layers, allowing seamless scalability for increased data consumption, cloud services, 5G evolution, and hyperscale traffic.
Additionally, the company implemented a 100 Gbps Fiber-to-the-Site (FTTS) ring, enhancing the performance, capacity, and resilience of last-mile fiber infrastructure.
Commenting on the milestones, Khalid Shehzad, Chief Technology Officer of JazzWorld, said: “The deployment of Pakistan’s first 1.2 Tbps per wavelength on our optical network, alongside the country’s first 100 Gbps FTTS ring, represents two major technological achievements. These upgrades highlight the strength and scalability of our network, enabling us to support future technologies, rapidly increasing traffic volumes, and demanding enterprise use cases while maintaining high reliability and performance.”
He added that these initiatives reflect Jazz’s long-term commitment to building world-class digital infrastructure, fostering innovation, accelerating digital inclusion, and supporting Pakistan’s evolving connectivity needs.
The FTTS deployment marks another industry-first, enabling ultra-high-speed connectivity for enterprise services, mobile backhaul, and next-generation digital applications, further cementing Jazz’s leadership in advancing optical access networks.
