Moby’s Future Quiet: A Refuge from the Noise, Out February 20

Veteran musician Moby has announced a new album, Future Quiet, led by a reimagined version of his Stranger Things hit, “When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die”, in collaboration with Gabriels’ Jacob Lusk.

The follow-up to 2023’s minimalist Everything Is Wrong is set for release on February 20, 2026, and will feature 11 tracks with various guest collaborators. Reflecting the album’s title, Moby, whose real name is Richard Melville Hall, described Future Quiet as a deliberate turn toward calm.

“To be clear; I love bombast. I love excess and volume. But as the world gets louder and crazier I find myself needing the refuge of quiet, both as a listener and as a musician,” he said.

He added, “For me, and hopefully for others, Future Quiet is a refuge. The world, self-evidently, is more demanding than it’s ever been. The world screams at us, our screens scream at us, other people scream at us, and to retreat from the screaming we need safety and refuge. That for me is the goal of Future Quiet. Writing and recording it was a refuge for me, and I hope that listening to it is a refuge for you.”

On the collaboration with Jacob Lusk, Moby shared, “Like anyone who’s heard Jacob sing, I immediately fell in love with his voice. After hearing him sing on the radio, I spent weeks tracking him down and begging him to work with me. And, lucky me, he agreed. The results speak for themselves, as his vocals on ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die’ are, I say with something approaching objectivity, transcendent.”

The song was originally performed by Mimi Goese and has seen a resurgence in streaming popularity following its inclusion in Stranger Things, including its fourth season.

Moby, who helped bring dance music to mainstream audiences in the 1990s, is also a long-time animal rights advocate and vegan. His new mellow direction follows a career that began in hardcore punk.
