Kremlin Says Putin Asked to Join Trump-Led Global “Board of Peace”
MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to join US President Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace,” an initiative aimed at addressing long-running global conflicts and overseeing governance and reconstruction in Gaza, the Kremlin said on Monday.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists, according to an international media report, that Moscow was reviewing the offer and seeking clarification from Washington on its scope and details. He did not indicate whether Putin was inclined to accept the invitation.
The White House has reportedly reached out to several figures around the world to participate in the initiative, which would be chaired by the US president himself and focus on resolving protracted international disputes.
Russia has historically sought to maintain balanced relations across the Middle East, including with both Israel and the Palestinians. However, Moscow’s diplomatic positioning has shifted in recent years, particularly amid the Israel-Hamas war and Russia’s ongoing assault on Ukraine.
These developments have strained Russia’s traditionally good relations with Israel, while Moscow has moved closer to Israel’s regional rivals, including Iran, and expanded engagement with Gulf states.
Putin has previously spoken positively about Trump’s efforts to resolve international crises, suggesting that success in the Middle East could mark a historic moment.
