Interior minister inaugurates real time passport tracking network

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday inaugurated a new high-tech monitoring platform at the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, marking a major step toward full digital oversight of Pakistan’s passport services.

The system, named Secure Hybrid Intelligence for Knowledge-Based Response Analytics (Shukra), enables real-time tracking of passport applications, printing processes and departmental performance. Officials said the platform provides end-to-end visibility, allowing authorities to monitor every stage of the passport cycle from application submission to final delivery, both inside the country and abroad.

As part of the technological upgrade, a 24-hour Monitoring Room and a dedicated Call Centre have been established at the DG Immigration and Passports. On the interior minister’s directives, the issuance process for Emergency Travel Documents has also been fully digitized, further reducing manual handling and processing delays.

Minister Naqvi was briefed in detail on the Shukra system and its operational capabilities. He praised the DG Immigration and Passports and his team for introducing a modern, technology-driven monitoring framework, stating that Pakistan’s passport infrastructure had now been aligned with systems used in leading countries.

“With this new system, real-time monitoring of passport applications and deliveries will now be possible,” the minister said. “Every stage, from application submission to final delivery, will be closely supervised.”

He said the government’s objective was to provide citizens with fast, secure and internationally standardized services, adding that the upgraded monitoring structure would significantly improve departmental efficiency and service reliability.

The minister also highlighted enhancements in passport security features, noting that they now meet ICAO international standards. He said the installation of new automatic German printing machines had increased production capacity, removed human intervention from the printing process and strengthened overall operational reliability.

During the visit, Naqvi toured the e-Monitoring Room, Call Centre, Forensic Laboratory and the modern Production Unit. Officials also demonstrated the Digital Integrated Dashboard, which enables daily operational oversight and staff performance evaluation.

Under the new system, crowd levels at passport offices will be detected automatically, while the Network Management System will track application backlogs and machinery status in real time.

The Director General FIA, Director General Immigration and Passports, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Inspector General Islamabad Police and other senior officials were also present during the visit.
