Tehran, Moscow and Beijing to Hold Maritime Security Exercises This Month
Tehran: Iran, Russia, and China have announced plans to hold joint naval exercises in the northern Indian Ocean later this month, amid heightened regional tensions.
According to a report by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the drills have been titled “Maritime Security Belt.” Naval forces from Iran, including the Iranian Navy and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), along with naval units from China and Russia, will participate in the exercises.
The report said the drills aim to enhance preparedness against potential threats or attacks and to strengthen military cooperation among the three countries.
Tasnim noted that the exercises were formally initiated by the Iranian Navy in 2019 and have since been conducted seven times.
The announcement comes at a time of escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, as the United States has increased its naval deployment in the Middle East.
