Pakistan, UK Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Parliamentary Engagement
Islamabad: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met with the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, at Parliament House on February 3, 2026, to discuss bilateral relations and key parliamentary and regional issues.
Speaker Sadiq emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to its longstanding friendly ties with the United Kingdom. He highlighted his cordial relations with members of all political parties, noting that the opposition plays an important role in the National Assembly.
He lauded the UK’s support in strengthening parliamentary committees in Pakistan, stating that all standing committees in the National Assembly are now fully functional. Speaker Sadiq also underlined Pakistan’s determination to combat decades-long challenges posed by terrorism.
The Speaker stressed the importance of further promoting parliamentary and public-level engagement between the two countries, noting that enhanced interaction would foster mutual understanding and cooperation. He also described climate change as a global challenge and welcomed the United Kingdom’s assistance in addressing climate-related issues in Pakistan.
Speaker Sadiq highlighted the active role of Pakistan’s parliamentary committees focused on women’s rights and welfare, including the Gender Mainstreaming Committee and the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus. He also noted the establishment of the Parliamentary Caucus on Children’s Rights, aimed at safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in the country.
High Commissioner Marriott praised Speaker Sadiq’s inclusive approach in working with all members of the National Assembly, regardless of political affiliation.
