Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Office has confirmed that the country has been invited to participate in talks between Iran and the United States.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, speaking on media, said Pakistan has received an invitation to take part in the US-Iran negotiations.

According to diplomatic sources, the talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled to take place later this week in Istanbul. Sources said the negotiations became possible through backchannel diplomatic efforts, with Pakistan and Türkiye playing a key role in facilitating the process.

Meanwhile, according to a foreign news agency, Iranian officials have also confirmed that nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran will resume in Türkiye on Friday. The talks had remained stalled since May 2023 after five rounds.

A regional official said that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Pakistan, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have been invited to Istanbul to participate in the discussions.

Iranian diplomatic sources stated that Tehran is neither overly optimistic nor pessimistic about the Istanbul talks. They said the discussions would determine whether the United States is serious about engaging in meaningful and result-oriented negotiations.

The sources added that Iran’s defensive preparedness is at its highest level and the country is fully prepared for any situation. They emphasized that Iran’s defensive capabilities are non-negotiable and will not be part of any discussions.
