Trump Signals Hope for Iran Talks but Issues Stark Warning
Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that the United States is holding talks with Iran and expressed hope that the negotiations will prove successful.
Speaking to the media at the White House in response to a question on talks with Iran, President Trump said discussions are ongoing. He noted that Iran appears interested in making progress, but added that it remains to be seen whether the negotiations will yield concrete results.
The US president clarified that while talks are continuing, he does not yet know where the next meeting will take place.
At one point, President Trump recalled that Iran had been given opportunities for dialogue in the past, but those efforts failed to produce results, after which the United States carried out Operation Midnight Hammer against Iran. He said he does not believe Iran would want a repeat of such an operation.
President Trump also referred to remarks he made a day earlier at the White House, when he said that a naval fleet larger than the one sent to Venezuela is now heading toward Iran.
He said that reaching an agreement with Iran would be a positive outcome, but warned that if no deal is achieved, very negative consequences could follow.
