Gilani Calls Parliamentary Diplomacy Key to Global Peace at Pakistan–Moldova Event

Islamabad: Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday underscored the central role of parliaments in promoting global dialogue, trust-building and sustainable international partnerships, calling parliamentary diplomacy an essential pillar of modern foreign relations.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a prestigious ceremony held in Dubai to mark the appointment of Syed Kashif Ali as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova to Pakistan. Addressing the gathering, Gilani described the establishment of the honorary consulate as a new milestone in Pakistan–Moldova relations, saying it would open fresh avenues for cooperation and strengthen bilateral engagement.

The Senate chairman emphasized that stronger parliamentary linkages contribute to global stability and long-term collaboration, noting that Pakistan is actively projecting a positive and constructive role within the international community through dynamic parliamentary diplomacy. He highlighted the potential for expanding cooperation with Moldova in key sectors including trade, agriculture, defence, healthcare and information technology.

Referring to multilateral parliamentary platforms, Gilani said the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) reflects Pakistan’s global diplomatic vision. He also announced that the second ISC conference will be held in Cambodia, describing the move as evidence of the growing international importance of parliamentary cooperation.

Gilani expressed confidence that the honorary consulate would serve as a strong bridge of friendship and partnership between Pakistan and Moldova, further reinforcing people-to-people and institutional ties between the two countries.
