Culture Should Be Managed, Not Locked, Says Aurangzeb on Basant

Lahore – Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said that culture and traditions are not to be locked away, but managed, declaring the Basant festival a triumph for Lahore and Pakistan.

Speaking to the media outside Haveli Asif Jah in central Lahore, Aurangzeb praised the Chief Minister’s decision to implement difficult but necessary measures for the festival.

She detailed that 1.4 million motorcycles were fitted with safety rods, and free transportation was provided through 512 buses, carrying 2 million people over three days. She added that 1 million vehicles entered Lahore during the festival period.

“Culture and heritage are not to be locked up; they are to be managed,” Aurangzeb said. “The successful Basant celebrations brought joy to everyone. Lahore and Pakistan emerged victorious, and next year we will see an even more vibrant Basant.”

The minister also highlighted that years of negativity had been instilled in young minds, promoting destruction and unrest on February 8. “The public rejected these calls to destroy and burn,” she said.
