Apple’s iPhone 17 Standard Model Sells Out Worldwide
Apple’s standard iPhone 17, part of the series launched in mid-September 2025, has emerged as a major success for the company. Priced from $799, several iPhone 17 models sold out in the U.S. and other international markets from the preorder period through mid-December, according to weekly checks by BGR. The base model offers hardware specifications that closely mirror those of the iPhone 17 Pro.
The iPhone 17 features the same high-end 6.3-inch OLED display as the Pro version and is the first standard iPhone to support 120Hz refresh rates (ProMotion) and Always-On display functionality. It also includes identical 48-megapixel main and ultra-wide cameras and starts at 256GB of storage, just like the Pro model.
The Pro variant adds a 48-megapixel telephoto camera, offers longer battery life (33 hours versus 30 hours for the standard edition), and runs on the slightly more powerful A19 Pro chip, compared to the A19 chip in the base model. These additional features come at a $300 premium over the standard iPhone 17’s starting price.
For buyers seeking a capable new smartphone, the base iPhone 17 is a strong option. However, consumers not committed to iOS can also consider some of the most powerful Android handsets released by Chinese manufacturers in late 2025 and early 2026. These Android flagships may offer competitive performance not only in processing power—matching the A19 in benchmarks but also in camera quality and battery improvements, providing an appealing alternative for certain users.
