Pakistan, Indonesia Agree to Accelerate CEPA Talks by 2027
ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met a five-member Indonesian delegation led by Minister for Investment and Downstream Industry Rosan Roeslani, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia, particularly in the economic domain.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan and Indonesia enjoy decades-old fraternal relations that continue to grow stronger with time. He conveyed his best wishes for Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and described the President’s visit to Pakistan last year as highly productive in advancing bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also recalled his meeting with the Indonesian President on the sidelines of the 58th World Economic Forum session and said Pakistan is keen to further enhance economic cooperation with Indonesia, including trade and investment.
Highlighting Indonesia’s experience, the Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s interest in benefiting from the Indonesian sovereign wealth fund model. He reiterated Pakistan’s desire to strengthen economic linkages and deepen collaboration in priority sectors.
Indonesian Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani thanked the Prime Minister and the Government of Pakistan for the warm welcome and hospitality and conveyed the best wishes of President Prabowo Subianto. He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to taking bilateral relations forward.
Both sides agreed to intensify efforts to convert the existing Preferential Trade Agreement into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by 2027.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kiani, Special Assistants to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Haroon Akhtar, along with senior government officials.
