Protest Escalates Outside Parliament Over Imran Khan’s Medical Care

A sit-in by the opposition alliance inside Parliament continues over demands to transfer PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital, with protesters moving into the outer premises of Parliament of Pakistan.

Participants in the protest include Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, PTI leader Asad Qaiser, and other opposition figures.

Addressing the sit-in, Mahmood Khan Achakzai said more than 100 members of parliament were effectively being kept confined. He said the opposition was not issuing threats, adding that the protest would continue regardless of whether the government made contact. He warned that if demands were not accepted, the sit-in would continue through Ramadan, with protesters observing fasting and offering Taraweeh prayers at the site.

Opposition Warns of Prolonged Sit-In Until Imran Khan Moved to Hospital

Achakzai said he had written to the prime minister as opposition leader, proposing a panel of three doctors, but received no response. He said it had earlier been agreed that the sit-in would continue until the PTI founder was shifted to Al-Shifa Hospital, stressing that Imran Khan should not lose his eyesight and should be allowed to seek treatment at a hospital of his choice.

He questioned what crime PTI had committed, saying the party was only demanding the return of its mandate. He said the opposition was prepared to go to any length to safeguard parliamentary freedom.

Speaking on the programme Naya Pakistan, Asad Qaiser said the government had not re-established contact with the opposition. He said doctors’ names were sent to the prime minister a week earlier but no progress had been made, adding that it was unclear what the government intended.

Senator Ali Zafar said the PTI founder should be transferred to a hospital with full medical facilities and given access to his personal medical team.

Senator Faisal Javed said protests would continue until the PTI founder received medical treatment.
