Google Pixel’s Now Playing May Become a Standalone App
Google’s popular Pixel-exclusive feature, Now Playing, which identifies background music, may soon be offered as a standalone app. First introduced in 2017, the feature lets Pixel users automatically recognize songs playing around them.
Code discovered in the latest version of Android’s System Intelligence, noted by 9to5Google, suggests that Google could make Now Playing downloadable from the Google Play Store. The code in version B.21 indicates: “Now Playing has a new home. Your settings, song history, and other features can be found in the dedicated app.”
Additional code points hint at notifications prompting users to download the app to access these features. Moving Now Playing to a dedicated app may make it easier for users to find, activate, and manage the service independently.
