Russia Shoots Down 150+ Ukrainian Drones Ahead of Geneva Talks

Moscow: Russia reported intercepting more than 150 drones launched by Ukraine overnight, according to the Russian defence ministry. The ministry stated that the drones were destroyed over Russian regions and the Black Sea and Azov Sea.

In the Russian-annexed region of Crimea, Sevastopol governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said about two dozen drones were shot down during one of the longest attacks in recent times. He noted that preliminary reports indicated one child was injured.

The latest surge in drone activity comes as the two sides prepare for a new round of diplomatic negotiations in Geneva, backed by the United States, following two previous rounds mediated by the White House that failed to reach a breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Kiev has made recent battlefield gains, recapturing 201 square kilometres between Wednesday and Sunday last week, according to an AFP analysis of data from the Institute for the Study of War.
