Protests to Continue as Opposition Presses for Doctors’ Access to Imran Khan

The opposition alliance has decided to continue its sit-in and protest over the health of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by opposition alliance head and Leader of the Opposition Mahmood Khan Achakzai at Parliament House.

According to sources, the meeting agreed to maintain the sit-in and protest in connection with the PTI founder’s health. Participants also decided to step up contacts to ensure access for his personal physicians.

During the session, Mahmood Khan Achakzai insisted that the sit-in and protest should continue until personal doctors are allowed access and family members are permitted to meet him. However, sources said that, except for a few PTI members, a majority of participants favoured ending the sit-in.

Aleema Khan, sister of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan, has said she does not trust any government or institutional doctors.

Speaking to the media, Aleema Khan said that the doctors whose names were provided by the family are not being allowed to treat him. She said the family had requested that treatment be carried out in the presence of a family doctor, but authorities have refused. She added that for several days they were being told that he would be shifted to a hospital.

Aleema Khan said it was earlier stated that a medical report would be issued, but the report that eventually came was a “joke,” as it did not even include a treatment plan.

She questioned why, if authorities believe the PTI founder’s treatment is being properly conducted, the details are being kept hidden.

Aleema Khan called on the public to come out and increase pressure for proper medical treatment, saying she does not care what anyone says about her.
