US Supreme Court Blocks Trump’s Global Trade Tariffs

Washington: The Supreme Court of the United States has invalidated global tariff measures imposed by President Donald Trump, delivering a significant legal setback to his economic agenda.

According to news agencies, the Court ruled on Friday that President Trump exceeded his authority when imposing worldwide trade tariffs, which had substantially impacted international commerce.

In its decision, the Court stated that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not grant the U.S. president the authority to impose tariffs. The ruling emphasized that such measures require clear congressional authorization.

Legal and trade experts suggest the ruling could affect trade agreements concluded this year and has drawn a clearer constitutional boundary regarding policies a president may enforce without congressional approval.

It is noteworthy that President Trump had imposed tariffs on several countries, including Pakistan. Last month, Trump had warned that an unfavorable court decision could place the United States in a difficult position.
