Saudi Arabia Joins Global AI Partnership
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has officially joined the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), marking a significant step in the Kingdom’s efforts to play a leading role in shaping global artificial intelligence governance.
The GPAI is a multilateral initiative hosted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and was originally launched by the Group of Seven (G7). The platform brings together more than 40 countries to collaborate on advancing responsible and human-centric AI development while addressing policy, regulatory, and ethical considerations associated with emerging technologies.
Kingdom Expands Role in AI Governance
Saudi Arabia’s accession is being spearheaded by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), underscoring the Kingdom’s expanding influence in the development, regulation, and ethical deployment of advanced digital technologies. The announcement was reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
The move has the backing of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and aligns closely with the objectives of Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s long-term national transformation strategy. Vision 2030 prioritizes the localization of advanced technologies, economic diversification, and increasing the contribution of the digital economy to gross domestic product.

By becoming a member of GPAI, Saudi Arabia will participate in shaping international AI standards and frameworks, contributing to discussions on governance models and best practices. The partnership aims to ensure that artificial intelligence systems are developed and deployed in a manner that respects human rights, promotes transparency, and safeguards societal interests.
Officials said membership in the initiative will strengthen Saudi Arabia’s ability to collaborate with leading global economies and technology innovators. The Kingdom’s growing AI and data ecosystem, combined with its expanding regulatory framework, positions it to play a constructive role in international deliberations on technology policy.
Participation in GPAI is also expected to enhance Saudi Arabia’s attractiveness to high-quality global investment.
