Russian Embassy Marks Defender Day
ISLAMABAD : The Embassy of the Russian Federation and its Defense Attaché’s Office hosted a reception on February 23 to commemorate Defender of the Fatherland Day, bringing together diplomats, military officials, and distinguished guests in the Pakistani capital.
The event was attended by Ambassador Albert P. Khorev, Russian Defence Attaché Colonel Vadim Fenchenko, embassy staff, officers of the Pakistani armed forces, members of the foreign diplomatic corps, and senior representatives from the host country. The chief guest was Air Marshal Shakeel Ghazanfar, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Khorev briefed attendees on the history and significance of Defender of the Fatherland Day, a national holiday honoring Russia’s armed forces and military veterans. He highlighted what he described as the storied victories of the Russian army and navy, paying tribute to prominent military commanders including Alexander Nevsky, Alexander Suvorov, Mikhail Kutuzov, Georgy Zhukov, Konstantin Rokossovsky, and Alexander Vasilevsky.

The ambassador underscored the historical legacy of these commanders, describing their leadership as emblematic of Russia’s military heritage and resilience. He noted that the holiday serves as an occasion to recognize the dedication and sacrifices of those who have defended the nation throughout its history.

Addressing current global dynamics, Ambassador Khorev stated that despite what he termed unprecedented pressure and opposition from the “collective West,” Russia’s armed forces continue to play a central role in ensuring national security, safeguarding civilian populations, and upholding the country’s sovereign path of development.

Colonel Fenchenko, in his remarks, emphasized the systematic and structured nature of Russia-Pakistan defense cooperation. He described bilateral military engagement as an important mechanism for building mutual trust and enhancing predictability in international relations.

The reception reflected ongoing diplomatic and defense exchanges between Russia and Pakistan, with both sides acknowledging the importance of sustained dialogue and cooperation in the security domain.
