Trump Extends Deadline Amid Claims of Iran Talks
Hopes briefly emerged that the ongoing conflict involving Iran could begin to de-escalate after Donald Trump stated that his administration was engaged in productive discussions with Tehran. However, active hostilities continued across multiple fronts, and Iranian officials denied that any such talks were taking place.
Iran Denies Negotiations as Conflict Intensifies Across Region
President Trump announced an extension to his previously set deadline for Iran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. He said the United States would delay potential strikes on Iranian power infrastructure for an additional five days. According to his statement, the extension was intended to allow US envoys time to pursue diplomatic engagement with what he described as a “respected” Iranian leader.
Iranian authorities responded by asserting that the US decision to delay military action came after what they called a firm warning from Tehran. They rejected claims of ongoing negotiations and maintained that no formal talks were underway.
Oil Prices Ease as Markets React to War Uncertainty
Financial markets reacted quickly to the development. Oil prices, which had experienced sharp fluctuations in recent days, eased following President Trump’s announcement. Market volatility has remained high since the outbreak of the conflict, driven by uncertainty surrounding its duration and potential impact on global energy supplies.
The humanitarian toll of the conflict continues to rise. Reports indicate that more than 1,500 people have been killed in Iran, while over 1,000 fatalities have been recorded in Lebanon. In Israel, at least 15 people have died, along with 13 US military personnel. Additional civilian casualties have been reported both on land and at sea across the Gulf region. Millions of residents in Iran and Lebanon have been displaced due to ongoing military operations.
Israeli Strikes Hit Lebanon Residential and Fuel Sites
On Tuesday, an Israeli airstrike targeted a residential apartment in Bchamoun, located approximately six miles southeast of Beirut. According to initial figures released by the Lebanese Health Ministry, at least two people were killed in the strike, and five others were injured. The attack reportedly occurred without prior warning and struck an area outside Beirut’s southern suburbs, where evacuation notices had previously been issued by Israeli forces.

Video footage shared online showed significant damage to the building, with at least one apartment engulfed in flames following the strike. Emergency services were seen responding to the scene as rescue efforts began.
In a separate development earlier the same day, Israeli forces carried out additional strikes in southern Lebanon. Among the targets was a gas station operated by the Amana company in Rashidieh, near the coastal city of Tyre. The strike resulted in a large fire, sending a plume of smoke and flames into the air. There were no immediate reports of casualties from that incident.
Rising Casualties and Displacement Mark Escalating Iran Conflict
Israel has conducted multiple strikes on Amana-operated fuel stations since hostilities with Hezbollah resumed on March 2. Israeli authorities have accused these facilities of forming part of Hezbollah’s economic infrastructure, which they allege supports the group’s military operations.
The situation across the region remains volatile, with continued military activity and no confirmed progress toward a ceasefire or diplomatic resolution.
