Xi and Lula Reaffirm Commitment to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation and Global South Unity
China and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and advancing a community with a shared future, emphasizing their role as constructive forces in promoting global stability, multilateralism, and sustainable development.
During a phone call on Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva discussed the progress of China-Brazil relations since their historic 2024 meeting, when ties were elevated to a strategic partnership aimed at fostering a more just world and a sustainable planet.
President Xi highlighted that China’s high-quality development through high-level opening up will create expanded opportunities for collaboration with Brazil across multiple sectors. He stressed that the alignment of development strategies over the past year has strengthened the China-Brazil community with a shared future and set an example of unity among Global South countries.
Xi emphasized the importance of safeguarding the central role of the United Nations, defending international fairness and justice, and standing together on the right side of history amid a turbulent global landscape. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to being a reliable partner to Latin American and Caribbean countries, advancing broader China-LAC cooperation.
President Lula praised Xi’s 2024 visit as transformative for bilateral ties, noting significant progress in cooperation across trade, development, and diplomacy. He reiterated Brazil’s readiness to enhance growth in China-Latin America relations, strengthen BRICS collaboration, uphold multilateralism, and support free trade while contributing to regional and global peace and stability.
The call underscores both countries’ commitment to deepening strategic cooperation, fostering sustainable development, and reinforcing their influence in shaping Global South unity and international governance.
