Medvedev: Russia Does Not Seek Global Conflict Amid Rising Tensions

Moscow: Dmitry Medvedev, senior Kremlin security official and deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, said Monday that while the world is becoming increasingly dangerous, Russia does not seek a global conflict.

Medvedev, whose council functions as a modern-day politburo of Russia’s top officials, acknowledged ongoing tensions stemming from Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine—the largest confrontation between Moscow and the West since the Cold War. He praised former U.S. President Donald Trump and described resumed contacts with Washington as encouraging, noting U.S. envoys are working to negotiate an end to the Ukraine conflict.

At the same time, Medvedev reiterated his long-standing criticism of Kyiv and Western powers, accusing the West of repeatedly ignoring Russian interests. He warned of the risk of the war escalating toward a nuclear “apocalypse,” while dismissing Western “horror stories” about Greenland.

“The situation is dangerous,” Medvedev told media.
