Pakistan, UNESCO Expand Cooperation in Science, Technology, and Education
Islamabad: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Khalid Magsi, met with UNESCO Director-General Dr. Khaled Al-Anani to discuss ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and the UN agency.
Minister Magsi described Pakistan’s relationship with UNESCO as a strategic partnership and emphasized that the organization has been a key pillar in advancing the country’s national science and technology initiatives. He noted that joint initiatives with UNESCO have strengthened national institutional capacities and empowered Pakistani researchers and policymakers.
The minister highlighted that cooperation with UNESCO has created effective opportunities for knowledge exchange. Pakistan’s Science Foundation and the National Institute of Oceanography are aligned with UNESCO’s mission, he said, and the partnership continues to focus on leveraging science for social welfare.
Magsi added that Pakistan is moving from general cooperation toward practical and results-oriented collaboration with UNESCO. He underlined that environmental sustainability and climate resilience are national priorities and emphasized attention to marine research under the UN Decade of Ocean Science for the Blue Economy.
He also noted that non-formal education remains an important area of collaboration between Pakistan and UNESCO.
