British Home Secretary Discusses UK-Pakistan Relations, Personal Ties to Azad Kashmir
London: British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has described the relationship between the United Kingdom and Pakistan as “extremely strong and positive.”
Speaking to media, Mahmood said that both governments remain in regular contact to address issues of mutual interest.
During the interview, she emphasized that addressing gaps in the UK immigration system is a top priority, noting that both legal and illegal migrants have historically exploited the system. She also highlighted the need for police reforms to tackle rising street crimes.
Shabana Mahmood shared that she identifies as British, English, and a Muslim resident of Birmingham, and expressed pride in her parents’ heritage from Azad Kashmir.
The Home Secretary also spoke about her personal interests, revealing her fondness for Pakistani cuisine and her own cooking skills. She noted that her specialties include palak gosht and keema, and that on weekends she enjoys meals prepared by her mother.
