Ceasefire Violations: Israel Conducts Airstrikes on Civilian Areas in Lebanon
Beirut: One person was killed and eight others were injured on Monday as the Israeli military carried out strikes on multiple locations in southern Lebanon, targeting civilian areas in two villages.
Despite a truce in November 2024 intended to end over a year of hostilities—including two months of full-scale conflict between Israel and local armed groups—Israel has continued regular strikes on Lebanese territory and maintained troops in five areas it considers strategic.
The Israeli military said the operations targeted “weapons storage facilities” and claimed that fighters were hiding among “civilian infrastructure,” justifying strikes on residential neighbourhoods.
Evacuation warnings had been issued for the towns of Kfar Tibnit and Ain Qana prior to the strikes, according to the Israeli army. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that buildings in both towns were targeted.
Earlier on Monday, the Lebanese health ministry confirmed that an Israeli strike on Ansariyeh killed one person and wounded four others. Another strike in Qleileh wounded an additional four people, the ministry said.
The NNA also reported Israeli strikes on vehicles near both locations, conducted without prior warning. Lebanon has repeatedly condemned Israeli actions as violations of the ceasefire. Since the truce, more than 360 people have reportedly been killed by Israeli fire in Lebanon.
