Pakistan Calls on UN to Sanction Baloch Liberation Army
Pakistan Urges UN Security Council to List Baloch Liberation Army Under Sanctions. Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council to approve a pending request to place the proscribed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) on the Council’s sanctions list, citing the group’s involvement in deadly terrorist attacks.
The demand was made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during a Security Council meeting focused on threats posed by terrorism to international peace and security.
Addressing the Council, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar said that following the Taliban’s return to power in Kabul, proxy terrorist organizations operating with external patronage and foreign financial support have been revitalized. He identified groups such as Fitna al-Khawarij Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Fitna al-Hindustan Baloch Liberation Army, along with its Majeed Brigade, as beneficiaries of this renewed momentum.
He stated that these groups are operating from Afghan territory with near-total impunity and are responsible for carrying out brutal and serious terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, allegedly with active support from Pakistan’s eastern neighbor.
The Pakistani envoy informed the Council that just last week, the BLA claimed responsibility for multiple terrorist attacks at various locations in Balochistan, resulting in the deaths of 48 innocent civilians.
