Carbon Levy Adds Rs25bn as Petroleum Levies Hit Historic High

slamabad: Pakistan has recorded the highest-ever collection of petroleum levy during the first half of any fiscal year, marking a historic increase in government revenue.

According to official documents, petroleum levy collection during the first half of the current fiscal year rose by Rs273.51 billion on a year-on-year basis. Between July and December 2025, the government collected Rs822.93 billion in petroleum levy, compared with Rs549.41 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year (July–December 2024).

The federal government had raised the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs4.65 per litre last month, increasing it to Rs84.27 per litre. The levy on high-speed diesel was also increased by Rs0.80 per litre, taking it to Rs76.21 per litre.

In addition, the government separately collected Rs25.48 billion under the carbon levy during the first half of the current fiscal year, according to official figures.
