Zelenskyy, Moldovan PM Discuss Energy Cooperation and EU Path
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu, during which the two leaders discussed cooperation in the energy sector, infrastructure projects, and joint progress toward membership in the European Union.
During the meeting, President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Moldova’s support for Ukraine during Russia’s full-scale invasion, particularly the assistance provided to Ukrainians who sought temporary shelter in Moldova. He underscored the importance of Moldova’s political backing, thanking Chisinau for its support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“Your political support is critical. We are grateful for the support for our territorial integrity and sovereignty. I believe that we have a common view on membership in the European Union in the future, and I hope that we will have a common path,” the President’s Office quoted Zelenskyy as saying.
Special attention was paid to the state of energy infrastructure in both countries, especially the consequences of Russian shelling, which resulted in power outages in several Moldovan cities. The leaders discussed responses to security threats posed by Russia and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
Prime Minister Munteanu, in turn, assured Ukraine of Moldova’s continued support and announced a government decision to provide humanitarian assistance, including generators and medicines.
The talks also covered the next joint steps toward European Union membership and the importance of simultaneously opening negotiation clusters as part of the accession process.
In addition, the two sides discussed joint projects in the economy and defense production, as well as cooperation in transport and broader infrastructure development.
