Uzbekistan President to Join Inaugural Peace Council Meeting in US
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is scheduled to visit the United States from February 17 to 19 to take part in the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council, a newly established international body designed to promote dialogue and the peaceful resolution of global and regional conflicts.
The Peace Council was founded in January 2026 on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, where its founding charter was formally signed in the presence of heads of state and government, as well as representatives of several founding countries.
Launched earlier this year, the initiative has received the support of a number of states, including Uzbekistan, which joined as a founding member. Through its participation, Tashkent reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful diplomacy, multilateral engagement and shared responsibility for maintaining international stability.
The establishment of the Peace Council is viewed as a continuation of broader international efforts to strengthen conflict-prevention mechanisms and to pursue political and diplomatic solutions to major global crises, particularly in the Middle East.
Uzbekistan’s involvement in the creation of the Council reflects its consistent foreign policy approach centered on dialogue, respect for international law and the rejection of force-based solutions. The country’s position on the Palestinian issue, based on support for a just and sustainable peace settlement in line with United Nations resolutions, has gained additional international attention within the framework of the initiative.
The Uzbek president’s participation in the Council’s first meeting also coincides with intensified political dialogue between Tashkent and Washington. Over the past six months, high-level contacts between the two sides have increased, marking what officials describe as a new phase in bilateral relations.
In September last year, President Mirziyoyev traveled to New York to attend a session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he held meetings with world leaders and heads of international organizations to discuss global and regional issues.
Further momentum followed in early November 2025 during the Uzbek leader’s working visit to the United States, which included talks with the US president, as well as meetings with representatives of the American establishment, Congress and business circles. Discussions focused on strategic partnership, economic cooperation, investment and regional security, including the C5+1 format, which both sides regard as an effective mechanism for coordination in Central Asia.
Contacts between Tashkent and Washington have continued through multiple channels, including telephone diplomacy and interagency cooperation. The expansion of economic dialogue and the creation of new business cooperation platforms have also reflected growing mutual trust and a shared interest in deepening practical engagement.
Uzbekistan’s participation in the Peace Council is seen as further evidence of the country’s rising international profile and recognition of its constructive role in global affairs. For Washington, it underscores Tashkent’s importance as a partner in advancing initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security and sustainable development across Eurasia and beyond.
As political dialogue intensifies, Uzbek–American cooperation continues to expand in areas including regional security, economic reform support, trade and investment, and humanitarian and educational exchanges. Joint projects in energy, digitalization, infrastructure and human capital development are contributing to a foundation for long-term partnership.
Overall, President Mirziyoyev’s participation in the inaugural Peace Council meeting underscores Uzbekistan’s active role in shaping a new architecture for international dialogue, while complementing the positive trajectory of relations between Tashkent and Washington. The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral engagement and contribute to broader regional and global stability.
