Azerbaijan Ambassador Meets Dr Musadik Malik in Islamabad

Islamabad :The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, at his office in Islamabad, emphasizing the shared commitment of both nations toward strengthening bilateral relations and advancing global climate action.

During the meeting, Ambassador Farhadov commended Dr. Malik for his proactive and assertive role during the recent Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) meeting on climate change. The Ambassador particularly appreciated Dr. Malik’s emphasis on collective global responsibility and his pointed remarks regarding inconsistencies in international climate commitments. He highlighted Pakistan’s vocal and constructive advocacy for equitable climate policies for developing countries, noting that the nation continues to set an example of leadership in international forums.

“The Republic of Azerbaijan greatly values Pakistan’s contributions to global climate dialogue,” the Ambassador said. “Dr. Musadik Malik’s consistent advocacy for fairness and accountability in climate action resonates strongly with our shared priorities of sustainable development and environmental protection.”

The meeting also underscored the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing the brotherly relations between the two countries, emphasizing that bilateral cooperation extends beyond diplomacy to encompass cultural, economic, and environmental collaboration. The Ambassador noted that such cooperation is essential in addressing transnational challenges such as climate change, urban sustainability, and resource management.

In a significant development, Ambassador Farhadov extended an invitation to Dr. Malik to participate in the Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum, which is scheduled to be held in Baku from May 17 to 22. The forum, organized under the auspices of the United Nations, aims to provide a global platform for dialogue on sustainable urban development, the climate–urban nexus, resilience-building, and collaborative pathways toward environmentally sustainable cities.

Dr. Malik welcomed the invitation and expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan’s efforts to facilitate international cooperation on climate and urban development issues. He emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to deepening collaboration with Azerbaijan, particularly in areas of environmental policy, sustainable urban planning, and climate resilience. “Our nations share common priorities and a mutual vision for addressing global challenges. Strengthening our ties in climate and urban development initiatives is both timely and necessary,” Dr. Malik remarked.

The discussion also covered potential avenues for future cooperation, including knowledge-sharing, technical collaboration, and joint participation in regional and international climate initiatives. Both leaders agreed to continue fostering dialogue and exchange on climate action strategies, with an emphasis on supporting sustainable development goals (SDGs) and promoting climate resilience in urban areas.

Ambassador Farhadov highlighted Azerbaijan’s focus on sustainable urban development and climate resilience, noting that the World Urban Forum in Baku would provide an important platform for countries to share best practices and innovative approaches to climate and urban challenges. He encouraged Pakistan’s active engagement at the forum to ensure that the perspectives and priorities of developing nations are effectively represented on the global stage.

The meeting concluded with both officials reiterating their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and fostering a collaborative approach toward tackling global climate and urban sustainability challenges.
