In a formal message addressed to the Iranian president, Putin conveyed what he described as his deepest condolences over the killing, which he characterized as a cynical violation of the norms of human morality and international law.
“Please accept my deepest condolences on the assassination of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and his family members, committed in a cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law,” the Russian president said in his message.

Putin stated that in Russia, Ayatollah Khamenei would be remembered as an exceptional statesman who made a significant personal contribution to strengthening friendly relations between Moscow and Tehran. He credited the late Supreme Leader with helping elevate bilateral ties to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
